the land of the free

Wow I never expected just the journey here to Cedar Point to be such an adventure on its own. The first few hours on the plane had me starting to dread the rest of my 40 hour voyage to Sandusky, Ohio. I got on the plane to find myself sitting next to an obviously drunk German couple and in between two babies who seemed to be taking turns to keep everyone in the 747 awake. The little girl in front of me kept wailing that she wanted to be let out of the plane. For 3 hours straight!! Boy she's gonna be some athlete when she grows up. But anyway, the headphones kinda drowned them out but that meant for the first 12 hours you couldn't do anything on the plane without some noise in your ears.

Ok but anyway the flight was pretty ok I guess. The German guy was really friendly and kept telling me a helluva lot about how German roads have no speed limits. Haha. But one thing I found amazing, the guy was essentially a senior auto-mechanic nad yet he gets to travel all over the world on holiday. Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Borneo and Singapore. His wife and him have been all over. Wow no mechanic would be able to afford that over in Singapore.

So Ney York was just great!! Its just God's grace that everything's been going so smoothly for me. Everything just seemed to be so well laid out. The Airtrain and then the subway to Penn. I could barely believe I was alone halfway across the world! Oh Dee if you're reading this my very first American food was....OATMEAL COOKIES!! Huge dish sized oatmeal raisin cookies!!Oh man!! Oh and Krispey Kreme is friggin overrated. If you're looking to get diabetes in a hurry, go to Krispey Kreme.

Ok so it was little wait for my Amtrak and I didn't get to see much of NYC but the Amtrak was another pleasant surprise. The seats were mother huge!!! You had so much leg room you could do flutter kicks and still have space!! And most of the seats were only filled with one person so you had an extra huge seat right next to you. I was LYING down to sleep most of the way. And the best part? All the seats come with their own personal powerpoints!! So my laptop became the in-train entertainment system!! 12 hour train ride was really quite comfortable

Oh but the best bit about America came when I got off the train at Sandusky, Ohio at 0430 in the morning. The guy ar Cedar Point had thrown me a bender when he said I could get a cab to the park at that kinda night. When I got off the train, the place was just deserted and the waiting area all locked up so I was looking at at least 3 hours outside in the freezing cold with 30 over kg of luggage. So I asked a lady standing nearby for directions and lo and behold, she didn't just give me directions, she gave me a lift to the park when her mom came to pick her up!! Not only that but they gave me their number and kinda demanded I check in with them regularly. She told me how her son's studying in Australia now and she was using me as a substitute. Haha. All that stuff you read in the newsies about Americans, I'm starting to have my doubts.

So far people here have been so great. Its been really fun. First day here and I've already played 2 hours of soccer and another 2 of frisbee and gone for a really nice morning run this morning. Oh and lo and behold I find out the guy I'm running with is gay. OMG. Haha. I thought I'd heard wrong when he said he was in love with a preacher's son. SON. Ah well he's a pretty nice guy so I won't discriminate. Ok gotta bugger off for training now. Park's opening tomorrow. Breathe Isaac.
